Padres beat up the Giants 8-4

Behind 4 hits from Adrian Gonzalez, including a 2 run home run, 13 hits overall, and a strong 7 inning start from Greg Maddux, the Padres took apart division rival San Francisco along with their staff Ace. Matt Cain was no match for the Padres today giving up 4 ER before leaving the game to a very bad bullpen, and the Padres jumped all over them and ran the score up to 8-1 going into the bottom of the 9th. E. Gonzales was brought in to mop up the mess, but he wasn't fooling anyone, and the Giants touched him up for 3 runs before he could finally shut the door.

Michael Barrett appears headed to the 15day DL with a strained throwing elbow. I'm not sure exactly how this injury happened, but when a trainer came out everyone figured he was heading to see how Maddux was doing, instead he tended to Barrett.

"He's certainly in a lot of pain. It's in an area that's not a good area; it's around the nerve, which bears some concern," Padres general manager Kevin Towers said. "Until we know if it's short term or long term, we're not going to panic just yet."

The next inning he was lifted for Bard who promptly hit a double off the CF wall. This could free the way for minor leaguer Colt Morton to get the call up. Colt has seen time at the ML level, and could offer quality parttime back up for Josh Bard in limited duty. Lets hope it's not serious.
