The Jim Edmonds ERA has ended for the Padres. The multiple Gold Glove award winner and WS champion simply did not hold up to his end of the bargain. While the Padres will be eating roughly $4.5m in payroll with the dumping, it's money better spent on letting him go at this point. JE had shown that he could no longer hit a + fastball, and had lost more than one step in the OF, which was becoming more and more evident with every passing week.
KT waited until the team had arrived home, so he could give the former allstar the respect of telling him in person, as opposed to a phone call while the team is on the road, and just having the replacement show up.
Below are his stats, and you can see how he just fell to pieces in 2008, and essentially wasn't worth a roster spot anymore.
Padres 2008 stats - .265 OBP / .133 SLG / .168 BA - 2 Dbls, 1 HR, 6 RBI in 90 AB's
We at Planet Padres wish the best for Edmonds, and know that if he still has that passion for the game that burns hot enough, he'll find a team in need of his services. As for the Padres, they will the person he's replacing found.
Play Ball !!!
